Mount Ellinor Day Hike
Mount Ellinor Day Hike
Spend the day climbing up one of the most prominent peaks on the eastern front of Olympic Mountain Range. Mount Ellinor peak sits at 5,944 feet and is a revered focal point in the southern Hood Canal region. It boasts westward views across the peaks of the olympics and eastward views across the Hood Canal and beyond.
From Union we will drive just over one hour to the trailhead. From here we start the climb under the canopy of large conifers in the Skokomish national forest. As you ascend this steep trail you will break out into the rocky slopes and mountain meadows on the south face of the mountain. After we have climbed above the treetops, every step up will be rewarded with spanning views of the landscape below. We return to the car using the same trail we have just climbed enjoying views on the way down.
This hike generally takes 4-6 hours to complete and involves steep switchbacks and some rocky terrain. We consider this to be an intermediate to advanced day-hike. This trail can be very busy in the summer months. From July through September, we lead hikes to Mt. Ellinor on weekdays only.
