Flapjack Lakes
Flapjack Lakes
Explore pristine Alpine lakes of the Sawtooth Range in the southeast corner of the Olympics on this 3 day, two night adventure.
From Union we will drive less than an hour to the Staircase Rapids Entrance to the Olympic National Park where we will start our hike. We begin our hike on the gentle climb of the North fork Skokomish trail meandering along the Skokomish River surrounded by large old growth forests. After 3.8 miles, we begin climbing out of the river basin on the Flapjack Lakes Trail gaining 3,022 Ft in 7 miles. Guests will be rewarded at the end of the steep climb with views of the lakes and their camp for the next two nights. On day two of this trip, you will enjoy the feeling of weight quite literally being taken off of your back as we leave our gear at camp and traverse up the ridge 1.3 mi. Gaining 1,114 ft. to Gladys Divide, one of the best viewpoints in the Olympic National Park. On the morning of day 3 we will pack up our camp and make the downhill return journey to the trailhead where we began our adventure.
Flapjack Lakes is a short and sweet backpacking trip which involves substantial elevation gain and loss. We consider it to be a moderate-challenging hike physically because it does involve some serious elevation gain and loss. For folks that are able to train a bit beforehand or are up for a challenge this could be a great first backpacking trip featuring many alpine lakes. It is a basecamp style trip in that we stay at one camp for two nights, day two is pure pack-free exploration!
Optional Stop – We love to share our local favorites!
On our drive back to Union, we are happy to make a stop at one of Hoodsport’s local businesses to enjoy a well deserved meal or brew to celebrate the completion of an epic adventure!
Because of how awesome this trip is, permits to this area can be limited. For the 2023 season we have permits for 1 trip with 4 guest spaces available. If you are interested in joining this trip check the calendar for available spaces.
