Dose Doe Expedition
Dose Doe Expedition
Experience a true wilderness expedition style trip by spending 6 days and 5 nights traversing through the South Eastern section of the Olympic Mountain Range from the Skokomish River to the Dosewallips River. From dense forests to mountain ridges and alpine lakes, this thru-hike really has it all.
From Union we will drive 45 minutes to our trailhead where we will embark on our journey on the North Fork Skokomish Trail. For 6.2 miles we will follow the gentle North Fork river trail to our first camp. On day two we continue to meander up the Skokomish River for 2 miles before passing up and over the First Divide and reach our second camp at Home Sweet Home ending our 6.5 mile day. We will enjoy two miles down to the Duckabush river on day three before we begin the steep ascent to Marmot Lake, our 5.1 mile day ending at an alpine lake camp for the night. For those feeling extra adventurous, we can drop our packs at our camp and take a 2 mile out and back excursion to Hart Lake or Lake Lacrosse. Day four we will traverse the rolling ridgeline and enjoy sweeping mountain views from the O’Neil Pass Trail. This 10 mile day will take us to our fourth camp riverside on the West Fork Dosewallips River where we will relax knowing that the majority of the elevation gain is behind us. On our fifth day we will hike 8 miles crossing back and forth across the “Dose” (Do-see) to our final camp, an old decommissioned Forest Service campground. On our final day 7.7 miles will feel like a breeze as we trek out of the river basin to our ending trailhead.
Because of the length of this trip and substantial elevation, we consider it to be a challenging trip which will quench the thirst of those seeking an extended remote adventure. This is perfect for hikers with some experience backpacking who are looking to dive into longer trips through the wilderness.
